Winter Watercolors

During our week of snow, we tried to come up with different activities to do while we were stuck at home. Once the snow turned to ice, playing outside was no longer an option and we weren’t willing to let the girls watch television all the time so we had to come up with something fun. Since the girls love to paint so much, they decided to create some winter watercolors.

I love that they choose to use whatever colors they like and are not stuck with always using traditional colors for their pictures.

Looks like the dogs got to the bottom of Lauren’s snowman…

Livie loves to paint and draw as well and decided to draw a snow-lady and a snowflake.

Taking a break… painting can be hard work!

I love the peace that accompanies a painting project. They are so focused on what they are doing.

Loving every minute of it.

This is where Fergus spent most of his time that week. Sitting or sleeping behind one of the dining room curtains in front of the heating vent.

Sew much fun!

Since we’ve been stuck at the house these past few days due to snow, I figured it would a good time to tackle a few sewing projects. First item on my list was to make one of “Darby’s Dish Mats”. Her tutorial is VERY well written and easy to follow. I changed the measurements a bit as the terrycloth I was working with had different dimensions than her pattern called for. Other than that, I followed her general directions and they turned out great. Such a fun project! Thanks Darby for such a cute idea and fun tutorial.

I had enough fabric to make two. Didn’t they turn out cute?

Next up on the list of sewing projects was this apron that I had started several months ago. My mother-in-law and I had figured out a pattern based on another simple apron that I had purchased with this project in mind. As always, things are always more difficult than they seem and take more time than you anticipated they would.  (The fabric for the main body of the apron was what gave us the most grief. The pattern was printed crooked on the fabric, so we kept cutting it trying to make it straight and finally gave up and just went with it. I was afraid we were going to end up with a belt instead of an apron if we kept trimming the way were were.)

I think the ruffle gives it just the right amount of sass!

Wonderful Watercolors

Olivia has really enjoyed her new watercolor paints. She asked if I could draw a Fall picture for her to paint. I encouraged her to paint the entire page this time, not just the pictures and she was so pleased with the final product. Isn’t it cute? I love that she didn’t stick to traditional colors and just painted whatever she felt would look fun.

Note the blue pumpkin, I guess he is not used to these cooler temperatures we’ve been having lately.

Pint-sized Painters

Olivia and Lauren LOVE to paint! After a weekend trip to Savannah with my parents, I brought the girls back some watercolor paints and paper. They were SOOOOOOOOOO excited and couldn’t wait to try it out when they arrived home from Preschool yesterday afternoon. We drew some flowers with a sharpie and then they got busy mixing colors and painting for almost an hour. They were so excited with their finished paintings and couldn’t wait to hang them on the fridge.

Olivia always sticks out her tongue when she is concentrating hard on something like coloring, painting or writing.

I see many more kitchen table crafts coming our way in the future.
